If only everything in life came paired with a cupcake........ Try a Dulce de Leche homemade cupcake paired with a cold Peroni. When you are confident you can handle it graduate to the frosting shots. Served in a martini glass and no, there is no alcohol in this, the sugar hit will alter your mood far faster than alcohol ever could.
« back" Nothing very bad could ever happen here," .... A line from a certain movie seems appropriate when sat outside Tartine on a weekday morning. This is the West Village at its best; brownstones, tree lined streets and quiet. You could almost forget that a throbbing metropolis exists only a few streets away.
Just as the note in the door says "every café should be like Doma." Open til late with bottled beer and wine parading the back shelf. What more could a modern day bohemian want?
You can tell the kids you're taking them to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory and when they see the inner workings of Jacques Torres they won't be disappointed. Jacques Torres has restored vintage equipment which turn the beans into exquisite chocolate; a process that can be viewed through the glass partition as you sip your hot (or iced) chocolate, gobble down your truffles and shop for a little something to take home.
You can lose hours in this market which is the former site of the National Biscuit Company (the Oreo people). There are many delights but one which caught our eye (and bellies) and tasted oh so sweet were the Fat Witch Bakery, brownies never tasted so good, and Eleni's where you must buy and eat (on the spot) a Belgian chocolate covered Oreo if it's the only thing you do that day.
This coffee emporium hosts a worldwide selection of roasted beans. Order a coffee for takeout or pick up your beans, have them ground and take them home to brew your own morning cup. It's worth dropping in even if only for a good inhalation of the best beans in town.
Coming from cooler climes where ice cream was sold on the sea front, there is something appealing about the no-fuss attitude of Cones. The dark lighting, the lack of polished chrome counter tops, glass fronted fridges with row upon row of plastic tubs full of curiously colored ice creams, is no doubt the reason this place thrives. If the ice cream is good why bother with a fancy façade?
Artisanal breads, mini muffins, quiche and cookies, a fridge full of locally sourced dairy goods and filter coffee to take out. Deliciously simple and oh so Village-esque.
